PANAJI
The Goa government has announced an ambitious pipeline of infrastructure projects worth Rs 1,640 crore to be executed through the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) during the financial year 2026-27, even as the State Budget has earmarked only Rs 300 crore for the sector this year.
The projects, spread across sectors such as health, education, culture, heritage and connectivity, were announced as part of the Budget presented by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in the Goa Legislative Assembly.
Among the key heritage initiatives proposed is the Rs 50-crore development of the Koti Tirth Corridor at the site of Shri Saptakoteshwar Temple on Divar Island in Tiswadi, aimed at enhancing the spiritual and tourism appeal of the historic temple complex.
In the healthcare sector, the government plans to construct a 15-bedded Urban Primary Health Centre at Cuncolim at an estimated cost of Rs 18 crore, while major infrastructure expansion has also been proposed at the Goa Medical College and Hospital. These include the construction of a new resident doctors’ hostel costing Rs 106 crore, a new boys’ hostel worth Rs 90 crore, and a new college block estimated at Rs 205 crore.
The cultural infrastructure push includes the construction of a Ravindra Bhavan at Tuem in Pernem taluka costing Rs 100 crore, and another Ravindra Bhavan at Sanguem estimated at Rs 78 crore, aimed at strengthening cultural facilities in the State’s hinterland.
The government has also proposed the construction of a new building for the Goa State Museum at a cost of Rs 22 crore, along with renovation and beautification of the Police Headquarters complex in Panaji estimated at Rs 45 crore.
A major connectivity project announced under GSIDC is the construction of the Salvador do Mundo“Chodan bridge, estimated to cost Rs 274 crore, which is expected to improve connectivity in the Bardez and Tiswadi regions.
In the education sector, the government has proposed the Mahavidya Sankul project at the Goa University campus, estimated at Rs 400 crore, which will create a common campus for six professional colleges and strengthen higher education infrastructure in the State.
While the government has outlined a large number of projects for execution through GSIDC, the relatively modest Rs 300-crore allocation in the Budget indicates that several projects may be implemented in phases or through staggered funding in the coming financial years.
The GSIDC is the State government’s key agency for executing major public infrastructure works across Goa since last 25 years. Apart from this, there are several other minor projects proposed for the year.
