A fishing boat was gutted in a major fire at Cavelossim on Tuesday morning, destroying property worth around Rs 8 lakh.

The fishing vessel was undergoing repairs at the Mobor workshop when fire broke out onboard. Before the fire tender from Cuncolim could arrive at the spot, the boat had suffered significant losses.

Fire personnel informed that there was delay in reaching the spot as the fire brigade was stranded at the busy Cuncolim junction for around eight minutes.

Boat owner John Martin Fernandes told the media that the fire broke out onboard the vessel when it was undergoing repairs. He made a plea to the government to explore the possibility of compensating him for the loss.
