VALPOI

With large amounts of water having accumulated in pits located in the Khand area and with water level set to rise further during the monsoon, the Sattari deputy collector has cautioned people to avoid visiting these areas.

Acting on directives to take precautionary measures in this regard, the Pissurlem panchayat has erected warning boards at several places in the village. The issue was discussed in detail during a recent emergency management meeting in Valpoi. Considering the potential danger posed by these pits, emphasis was laid on implementing various safety measures.

Pits from mining operations are now filled with large quantities of water and have become dangerous. During the monsoon, the possibility of drowning incidents in these pits cannot be ruled out. Keeping this danger in mind, the administration has advised citizens not to enter the vicinity of the pits.

During the special meeting held on the issue, stress was laid on implementing safety guidelines. As there are no protective fences around the pits, concerns were raised that both people and cattle may accidentally enter the area.

The deputy collector instructed that warning signboards be installed at various locations. Accordingly, the Pissurlem Panchayat has erected warning boards at several places in the village.

When contacted, Pissurlem Panchayat Sarpanch Devanand Parab stated that there are several dangerous pits within the panchayat jurisdiction and accidents cannot be ruled out. “Due to lack of sufficient funds, the panchayat is unable to undertake fencing work on its own,” said Parab.

Parab has demanded that the government immediately take steps to install protective fencing around the pits in the interest of public safety. He also appealed to citizens to follow the warning instructions displayed at various locations as directed by the administration.
