The incident happened between 3 am and 4 am when the driver was travelling from Canacona to Quepem. Reports say he suddenly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and plunge into the canal.
Local residents heard the crash and rushed to help, rescuing the driver from the submerged car. He sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Villagers expressed concern over the recurring danger posed by the open canal. They said they have been asking for protective railings along this stretch for several years, but authorities have not acted.
Residents also noted that although some railing work had started at Cotarli in Sanguem, it was left incomplete, leaving long sections unprotected.
The lack of proper safety barriers has reportedly caused several incidents in the past, involving both vehicles and livestock, raising serious concerns about public safety in the area.
