The march was held today in the capital city. Addressing to the media Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress President Pratiksha Khalap highlighted the growing crime against women in the state. “Crime against women is on rise in Goa with every two murders and 9 rapes taking place every month on an average. These cases are reported ones, there are several others that go unreported,” said Khalap
They further demanded the Goa State Commission for Women (GSCW), Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (GSCPCR) and Directorate of Education to take immediate suo moto action as requested earlier. Congress highlighted that none of the commission officials have visited Curchorem victims and conducted investigations to help the safety of the minors.
“Women and child commissions, and Education department should go to every school and hold counseling session for all children on how to cope up in such situations, especially to the victims and to their families,” expressed GPCC President Amit Patkar.
Congress criticized the Goa police for failing to take action when the complaint was lodged. “Curchorem police did not file FIR within 24 hours when Congress workers marched to the police station. Police were probably under pressure,” said Patkar.
