MARGAO
In a development adding a twist to the controversy surrounding the return of PI Vikram Naik to Colva, a group of citizens welcomed PI Naik’s reinstatement as Colva police station in-charge.
The new development comes days after villagers led by Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas vehemently objected to the government’s decision to reinstate PI Naik at Colva last week.
PI Naik, who assumed office on Monday, was welcomed by the group of citizens with flower bouquets. The group told the media that PI Naik has been a hard-working and efficient police officer who has been prompt in attending to public complaints and meting out justice to the citizens.
One of the citizens pointed out that PI Naik made himself available to the public 24x7, providing relief to citizens.
PI Naik was shunted out of Colva police on February 11 following protests by villagers after his presence at the Colva Church with a posse of policemen.
His reinstatement last week again triggered uproar after citizens led by MLA Venzy Viegas, social activist Fidol Pereira and others called on South SP Santosh Desai before handing over a memorandum to DySP Sidhant Shirodkar demanding PI Naik’s transfer.
