Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has appealed to farmers, agricultural stakeholders, and citizens across the State to actively support organic cultivation and sustainable farming practices as part of the vision for a ‘Swayampurna Goa’, a self-reliant and environmentally conscious State.
Addressing the importance of ecological balance and sustainable agriculture, Sawant said Goa has historically maintained a close relationship with nature and must continue to preserve its fragile ecosystem through responsible agricultural methods.
“Goa has always lived in harmony with nature, and today our agriculture sector must lead the way towards a climate-resilient and sustainable future,” Dr Sawant stated, while emphasising the need for long-term environmental protection and food security.
The chief minister said the state government’s agricultural vision is aligned with the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his seven appeals focused on environmental conservation and sustainable development.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s concept of the ‘4Rs’ in farming ” Right Source, Right Dose, Right Time, and Right Place ” Sawant urged farmers to adopt scientific and eco-friendly agricultural practices that reduce chemical dependency and improve soil health.
He encouraged the wider use of natural fertilisers prepared from organic waste and stressed the importance of promoting naturally grown produce across Goa.
According to him, such measures would not only safeguard the environment but also enhance the quality and market value of agricultural products from the State.
The chief minister further highlighted that sustainable agriculture is essential for achieving the broader goal of a ‘Viksit Goa’ while ensuring economic empowerment for farmers and rural communities.
He noted that environmentally responsible farming can play a crucial role in strengthening Goa’s rural economy, preserving biodiversity, and supporting climate resilience.
Sawant appealed to farmers, cooperatives, self-help groups, and agricultural institutions to work collectively in transforming Goa into a national model for organic and sustainable farming practices.
“Sustainable agriculture is the foundation of a Swayampurna and Viksit Goa,” he said, reaffirming the government’s commitment towards green growth and farmer welfare.
