CM appeals to public to set new yoga participation record

PANAJI

Ahead of International Yoga Day, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has appealed to citizens across Goa to participate in large numbers and help the State set a new record with over two lakh people taking part in yoga sessions on Sunday between 6 am and 8 am. The final participation count will be announced at 12 noon.

Addressing a press briefing, the Chief Minister urged students, teachers and government employees to join yoga sessions at venues nearest to them. “Last year, we witnessed an encouraging response with around 15,000 participants and more than 1,000 venues hosting yoga sessions. This year, our target is to cross two lakh participants and create a new record. Students, teachers and government servants should actively participate in this initiative,” Sawant said.

Sawant appealed to people to attend yoga programmes being organised across the State and also called upon temples and churches to host yoga sessions on their premises. He assured that trained yoga instructors would be made available free of cost.

“I urge everyone, irrespective of political affiliation or background, to participate in this initiative and make International Yoga Day a grand success,” he said.

Following the sessions, participants have been asked to upload photographs and attendance details on the designated government portal. Sawant said attendance certificates and participation figures would be submitted online, after which the final statewide count would be declared at noon.
