The inauguration of the new Captain of Ports Terminal Building in Panaji, which was scheduled for June 8, has been postponed until further notice.

In a communication issued by the Department of Information and Publicity, officials said the inauguration had been deferred due to “unforeseen circumstances”. A revised date and time for the event will be announced later.

Earlier, the government had announced that Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, would inaugurate the Rs 48.87-crore facility on June 8 in the presence of CM Pramod Sawant and other dignitaries.

Initial reports suggested that the postponement was linked to the CM’s visit to New Delhi.

However, the official communication later stated that the event had been deferred due to unforeseen circumstances.

The terminal building is expected to serve as the headquarters of the Captain of Ports Department, helping strengthen the State’s maritime administration and related services.
