Buffalo rescued after falling into well in Honda-Sattari

A dramatic incident unfolded this morning in the Honda area of Sattari taluka when a buffalo fell into a well, causing panic in the locality. The incident occurred around 7:42 a.m. near the “Food and Drushel” area at Vadakade-Honda.

Local residents were alerted by unusual sounds coming from the well. Upon inspection, they discovered a buffalo trapped inside and immediately informed the Valpoi Fire Brigade. Responding promptly, the fire team rushed to the spot and began rescue operations after assessing the situation.

The rescue mission was led by senior fire personnel Dattaram R Dessai. Due to the well being deep and narrow, the operation posed significant challenges. The primary objective was to safely rescue the animal without causing injury.

A JCB machine was deployed to assist in the operation. Fire brigade members Tulshidas Zarmekar (driver), Ram Naik (firefighter), and Ajay Gholkar (firefighter) coordinated effectively and carried out the rescue with utmost caution. Local residents also extended their support.

After nearly one and a half hours of continuous efforts, the buffalo was successfully rescued at around 9:25 a.m. without any injuries. No loss of life or property was reported, and the successful rescue of the animal brought relief to everyone present.

Residents praised the fire brigade for their prompt and courageous action. It was also emphasised that citizens should remain alert and inform authorities immediately in such situations.

Meanwhile, locals pointed out that open wells without proper protective fencing or covering pose serious risks. They urged authorities to implement safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
