An Afghan national was detained by immigration officials at Goa International Airport, Dabolim, after he was allegedly found travelling on fraudulently obtained Indian passports while posing as an Indian citizen.
According to a complaint filed by Shanigaram Sriharsha, wing in charge of the Bureau of Immigration at the airport, the accused, identified as Diwraj Hiro from Kandahar, Afghanistan, and currently residing in Kailash, Delhi, was intercepted at Counter No. 12 of the Immigration Check Post at around 3.38 am on May 10.
Officials said the accused had travelled in and out of India several times since 2009 using an Afghan passport. During verification, it was allegedly found that he had renewed his Afghan passport outside India and re-entered the country on January 2, 2016.
He had recently arrived in Goa from Russia via Bahrain.
Immigration authorities further alleged that the accused was travelling using a fraudulently obtained Indian passport in the name of Anil Shukla of Delhi.
Investigations also revealed that he had earlier obtained another Indian passport fraudulently under the name of Suresh Ahuja.
Police said the accused allegedly deceived several Indian authorities by using fake identities to obtain official documents illegally.
Based on the complaint, Dabolim Airport police registered an offence under Sections 318, 319, 336(1), 336(2), 336(3), 337, 338, 339 and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Section 12(1)(b) of the Passport Act, and Section 17 of the Citizenship Act.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Prathamesh Palkar of Dabolim Airport Police Station under the supervision of PI John Fernandes and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
