In a swift response to the altercation at the Mapusa taxi stand, Mapusa Police have arrested seven individuals in connection with the assault involving a group of tourists and a local resident.
According to police sources, the incident escalated from a minor dispute, reportedly linked to parking and movement in the busy taxi stand area.
What began as a verbal exchange quickly turned physical, drawing public attention and raising concerns over safety in one of North Goa’s busiest commercial hubs.
Acting promptly, police personnel reached the spot, diffused the situation, and ensured that no further disturbance occurred. The seven accused were taken into custody under Section 151 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which allows for preventive arrest to avert potential breaches of peace.
Officials reiterated that any form of violence in public spaces will be dealt with strictly. “Such behaviour will not be tolerated. Preventive measures are being strengthened to ensure public safety,” a police officer stated.
The incident once again brings into focus a growing concern among locals and authorities over the conduct of certain tourists.
While Goa continues to promote itself as a welcoming tourist destination, such episodes have prompted calls for stricter enforcement and awareness to ensure that mutual respect between visitors and locals is maintained.
