11 municipal councils get final seat count ahead of polls

Ahead of the municipal elections due next month, the Goa State Election Commission has issued a notification fixing the number of councillors to be elected across 11 municipal councils in the State.
As per the order issued by State Election Commissioner Menino D’Souza, a total of 11 municipal bodies will go to the polls, with the strength of councillors varying based on the classification of each council.
Among the major municipalities, Margao Municipal Council (A class) will have 24 councillors, followed by Mormugao (A) with 21 and Mapusa (B) with 20 seats. Mid-sized councils such as Curchorem-Cacora, Bicholim, and Cuncolim (B) will have between 15 and 14 councillors, respectively. Quepem will have 13 and Canacona 12 councillors being elected. On the other hand, smaller councils like Pernem, Sanguem, and Valpoi will have 10 seats each.
The notification, issued under provisions of the Goa Municipalities Act, formalises the composition of municipal councils and marks a key step in the run-up to the upcoming civic polls.
