MARGAO: Unauthorised dumping of mixed waste behind the Cuncolim Industrial estate came to the fore on Saturday after miscreants set a dump afire. As black smoke billowed from the site, locals feared that the fire which has spread to the adjoining area, may destroy vegetation on the hill behind the Industrial estate. The Cuncolim fire brigade and the Cuncolim police personnel rushed to the site after receiving information about the fire incident. Social activist Aviraj Desai said miscreants have been dumping unauthorised waste behind the industrial estate for some time in the absence of action by the concerned authorities. Suspecting that the waste is deliberately disposed of by burning, Desai demanded strict action by the authorities against the culprits involved in the illegal act.
